UMT
offers an intensive, eight-week summer program that instructs young people
age 5-18 in the dramatic arts. Our program is tuition-free to reach as many children
and youth from under-served communities as possible.
By offering in-depth training in theatre, music, dance, and song, we strive to
enhance our student’s self-esteem and expand their potential, while also
heightening their awareness of opportunities through art and music. UMT students
develop a greater understanding of professionalism, team work, and responsibility
from our staff of arts educators. Recognized internationally, UMT instructors
include Delfeayo Marsalis, Ellis Marsalis, Donald Harrison, Lorraine Alfaro,
Lula Elzy, and John Grimsley.
UMT recruits students through schools, churches, community centers, and all media
outlets. Enrollment is by audition. No previous experience in the dramatic arts
is necessary. The student body represents the diversity of the Greater New Orleans
area. UMT students perform throughout the year for cross-cultural, citywide audiences. |
